Unlocking the Future of Carbon Transparency

For the past few months, Siccar has been quietly working on an exciting and transformative project within Digital Catapult’s International Supply Chain Accelerator (ISCA) – one that is set to redefine how businesses securely share Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data across supply chains.

In July 2024, Siccar was selected as a winner of the ISCA Product Carbon Footprint Challenge 2; part of the Made Smarter Innovation, Digital Supply Chain Hub programme. The goal? To implement an efficient mechanism to seamlessly and securely share PCF data between different organisations, overcoming one of the biggest barriers to carbon transparency and regulatory compliance in global supply chains.

Over the past months, we’ve been working closely with Digital Catapult, Partnership for Carbon Transparency (PACT), Unilever, and GS1 to build a solution that enables efficient, tamper-proof PCF data sharing. While our primary focus has been Challenge Area 2—efficient and secure PCF access and visibility, we have also incorporated elements of Challenge Area 1 to ensure a standardised approach to product data. Our CTO, Martin Halford, shared the following:

“The ISCA challenge is a great example of how distributed ledger-based platforms can be used to share data within a large-scale, global consortium of companies.  Being able to provide a distributed “single source of truth” of data in a tamper-proof, secure and safe manner is very exciting to many organisations.”

What’s Next for Siccar?

This has been a behind-the-scenes effort, but we’re now approaching a stage where we’ll be able to reveal more about what we’ve built and, more importantly, how it will help businesses comply with emerging regulations, cut costs, and improve emissions tracking.

Stay tuned, as we’ll soon be sharing how this work will change the landscape of carbon accounting in supply chains.
